Best known in the mainstream as a touring member of the Eagles of Death Metal, Dave Catching’s guitar skills, production nous and encyclopaedic knowledge of “rock-guitar” across so many of its vestiges and variables, including perhaps particularly the “Desert-Rock” genre can be found on albums by Queens of the Stone Age, The Twilight Singers, Mark Lanegan, The Mutants, Mondo Generator, Masters of Reality and the cult collaborative side-project helmed by Josh Homme, “The Desert Sessions”.
His searing lead lines and chunky, crunchy – always ‘just right’ – rhythm parts are a huge part of any deal for this diamond Dave, obviously. His background from the Californian stoner-rock band he founded, earthlings?, proving so crucial. But the other important part of the puzzle with Mr Catching is his Ranco De La Luna recording studio in Joshua Tree. It’s there that Catching has either been behind the board or simply provided the space for Kyuss, UNKLE, Arctic Monkeys, Earth, Dean Ween, Dave Grohl, Kurt Vile and many, many more. Rancho is a private residence and if Catching isn’t part of the brew when it comes to cooking up the musical sounds he’s often found in his kitchen serving the food that feeds the troops. His other great love in life being the culinary creations he provides on site.
